  25th Annual Awards Luncheon
By: State FFA Officer Lucas Head
Tuesday, March 12, 2013

On Friday, March 8, 2013, the Arkansas FFA State Staff, my fellow officers and I relished the opportunity to attend the 25th Annual Awards Luncheon to honor and recognize the 2012 inductees into the Arkansas Agriculture Hall of Fame.

Various agriculturists and stakeholders to Arkansas agriculture attended this luncheon, many of whom are also stakeholders to our State Association.

After the light-hearted introduction by John Philpot and the Invocation by Betty Oliver, we soon enjoyed a freshly-cooked meal of Arkansas-grown chicken, rice and edamame, as well as assorted steamed vegetables, salad and our choice of desert, german chocolate or red-velvet cake. Following the meal, Cal McCastlain gave a warm welcome.

Finally, the Class of 2012 was recognized for their accomplishments and service to Arkansas agriculture. This year’s class was well-rounded, ranging from Mr. Soybean himself, to shipping experts, to Home Demonstration Agent/ Teacher, to everything in between. We were inspired by their stories of persistence and their genuine homegrown values.

Mr. Mathew J. Post said, “Farming and Family will always be connected.”

He is part of a six-generation family of viticulturists who have been growing grapes and making wine since 1872 here in the Arkansas River Valley. Mr. Donald “Buddy” Wray says he can, “Look behind with no regrets, look ahead with no fears,” as Mr. Leland Tollett, he, and the Tyson brothers grew Tyson Foods Inc. into a globally recognized corporation it is today.

“True Americans, Selfless Agriculturists”

The Class of 2012 has surely made many contributions to agriculture. All who attended were blessed to be a part of such occasion as to honor these individuals, and I am thankful for that chance.
